I guess many of you here are from USA or Canada. How about people from Europe or Asia? What's your view?

Canada.
- lots of space, lots of resources, lots of water, healthcare, high life expectancy, social services safety net... consistanly our cities are ranked as best cities to live in.
- also, recent theories predict global warming will turn the US into a dustbowl and Canada into the agrarian powerhouse of the continent!

Actually, I am American. And I live in what many consider one of the best cities in the world: Los Angeles. But I think many of the answers to your question, so far, are propagandistic and geocentric.

I've traveled to over 40 countries and lived & worked in six. The USA is NOT the most "liberal" not the "richest." Besides, those "riches" are very poorly distributed and available to very few. For instance, Bahrain has a higher per capita income.

But you asked about "livable." This depends on many things: what languages you speak comfortably, your ability to earn an income, and what YOU enjoy or find important.

For my tastes, San Diego beach areas are great but horribly expensive -- and USA medical expenses are the highest in the world. But New Zealand is beautiful, clean, friendly, liberal, and not so expensive. If you don't mind some chilly weather, Vancouver Canada is amazing. Montreal has a horrid climate but is easily the most sophisticated and enjoybable. Amsterdam and Copenhagen are the most progressive. The best bargain might be Brazil. The Croatian and Bulgarian coasts are relaxed, warm, affordable and friendly. And the most beautiful (young) women live in Ukraine. And if you're not afraid of Muslim terrorists, Israel is very hip.
