The NY Times now has twice reveled to the people who would kill us all, the Top Secret methods we use to track and catch terrorist. The Government begged them to not print this information yet in their zeal to attack Bush (the real enemy) they used their first ammendment rights to tell the terrorists how we catch them.

No The editors of "The Old Gray Lady" would love to be depicted as martyrs. A boycott of this once fine and reputable paper would hurt them more. They have no concern for the safety and security of their fellow citizens.

While I won't defend their actions in this case, I don't know if there are legal grounds to arrest anyone. Further, I believe this administration has brought these actions upon itself because they've been anything but transparent with the American people. A majority of Americans have little to no trust of this President or his administration.

The editors most likely won't be arrested because any such trial would be something the Republican party doesn't need going into an election cycle, a "1st Amendment trial"...yeah, that would look great plastered across the headlines...

Yes, that should be there headline. Hell, it should be their motto, it should be the first sentence in their mission statement.

Their hatred of President Bush has blinded them to the real world and the fact that terrorists are trying to wipe us out. If they continue to cloak everything they do in "the people's right to know", then what's to prevent them from reporting it when our troops are closing in on bin Laden? Don't we have a "right" to know everything?!

Following these guidelines, when we broke the German and Japanese codes in WWII, the N.Y. Times would've printed that on the front page, because we have a "right to know".

I hate the times as much as anybody, but it is amazing that everybody is ignoring the root problem. You mention TOP SECRET methods. Who are the govt traitors who can't keep their f'ing mouths shut?

The role of the press is to report the facts. The times does that well. The role of the government is to keep their mouths SHUT!!!!! They aren't able to do even that simple thing. It is the "unidentified government official speaking on condition of anonymity" who should lined up against the wall and shot.

No. You even quote their first amendment rights right there. The bigger concern should be who is leaking the documents out to the NYT. That said, if Bush would stop doing things illegally, we wouldn't have people concerned about it and leaking information thinking they're being "whistle-blowers".

Bush needs to stop thinking he makes the laws. It is his job to carry out the laws under the guidance of the Constitution - not to make up rules willy-nilly and trample all over the document that is the foundation of our nation. Even if he thinks it is in our best interest, he needs to "protect us" within the legal framwork established for him.

How come the White House didn't get this BUNGED UP when someone leaked the name of one of our CIA secret agents??

That is a felony, and it has been traced to Dick Cheney's staff. Where was all the White House outrage then???

If Cheney had a hand in it, how about they take him away and never let him see the light of day???

Get your facts straight.

It is not the fault of the media for reporting a story illustrating that the Bush admininstration has ONCE AGAIN violated privacy laws.

Bush weakened our country by not getting court/judge approval, as required by law, before examining the financial records.

This reminds me of a child who gets told on for stealing then is mad that ppl found out. AND then blames the ppl who told.

Press is a necessary evil(overstatement) in a democracy. What NYT does/has done is debatable. However it is an essential check on the executive to watch their step all the time.

Damn that First Amendment.

Maybe you are okay with warrantless wiretaps on US citizens, but I am not.

Go on believing in mistake-free, benign government at your own risk.

Amen, Nightshade. Aren't our intelligence agencies supposed to be our first line of defense against "terrorism"?
