I personally think only Republican taxes should pay for this war and only Republicans should fight it.
Btw, I'm female but volunteered to be reactivated for the Gulf War. Us liberals just have a higher sense of moral values on what is right and wrong. We have the courage to stand up against things we know are wrong; whereas, Republians just 'fall in line' like robots all chanting the same tune in sequence.

I'm a liberal and I'm wholly in favor of the draft - as long as it applies equally to the rich and to the poor. Right now, the poor disproportionately serve the nation in both military and civil service (Peace Corps, Americorps).
Rather than a draft, I would prefer two years compulsory service in either the Military or the Peace Corps. No excuses for anyone except the physically and mentally handicapped.
Presently, only about 25% of those in Congress served their nation. The lowest percentage in history. I think the reason they have no problem sending poor people's children off to fight worthless wars is because they know their children are safe. If all children were at risk, this country would fight far fewer wars.
So, to a certain extent I agree with you - just not for the same reasons.

Pardon?
What a troll. But hey, let's humor you by taking the two of the highest profile "Liberal" and "Conservative" people. The current president and his last opponent.
John Kerry - Democrat - Fought in Veitnam
GW Bush - Republican - Do I need to even go into it? Let's just say he never saw combat, eh? Let alone all the other things.
Who's the "coward" there? Futhermore, why must you generalize so much. You really think you can just group the hundreds of millions of people in the country into two or a few groups?
If you'd like the draft so much, why do you go over there and save the trouble.

What a great idea! Not that I think it's really possible, but it would be nice to get a bunch of them into Canada and Mexico where they belong.
The only thing is that we need to declare NO AMNESTY! If you leave, you stay gone. If you come back, you go to military prison - I don't care how old you are or what physical shape you're in. If we had done this the last time, Clinton would still be in Europe. How does a draft dodger get to be come President? Disgusting.

I think that they should reinstitute the draft and start drafting the children of chickenhawks like Cheney and Rumsfeld who found ways to avoid the draft when they were eligible. If we had a draft and didn't give deferments to rich kids the war would be over within sixteen weeks. Draft Jenna and Barbara!
BTW, at first I thought nevertouched... was quoting Cheney.

I think you will have to start that argument by buying into a lot of lies. There is a reason that there are more elected Democratic war veterans than there are Republican ones. Furthermore, I think if you ask the elected Republican war veterans they will denigrate you for mistreating their liberal brothers.
In short, learn something before making silly statements that you mean to be inflammatory but that actually come out pathetic.

PS And if philosophy is too complex for you -- you could start by explaining Cheney's; Bush's; Delay's and Gingrich's "difficulties" with military service.

Hmm, sounds like you are a wee bit on the intolerant side. Just because a person dosen't want to go get shot at in a war that can't be won, that shouldn't have started anyway, dosen't mean that they are cowards, just smart.

Not me! Personally I don't think we should go to war with countries who have never attacaked us. I must be crazy. Secondly, why would anyone risk dying for a cause that they don't believe in? Would you die fighting for gay rights? (presuming you diagree with homosexuality as most conservatives do). What would you (theoretically) do if there were a war fighting for gay rights and you were drafted? I am not trying to debate gay rights... just using that as an example...

I am one Republican who does not want the draft to come back. Maybe if we Republicans stay in power by winning elections they willl start to leave. A lot of them wil tell you that they are not proud of the past sacrifices of our founding fathers and mothers.

Our country was founded by liberals.
And you will always find more liberals fighting for what they believe in on the front line than you'll find conservatives.
