Hi there. Be aware of the context where you read about this. Underpinning, as someone already fed back, is a technique to support the structure of a building.
Often however this term is used when a building has suffered from a defect known as subsidence, basically when the ground below the property gives way slightly and the building starts to literally 'crack and fall apart' In this situation underpinning is carried out to prevent further movement in the ground that is supporting the foundations of your property. If done properly you should not have any further problems.
In short beware if you are buying a property that has had some "underpinning" work carried. Make sure it is backed up by guarantees and above all get a professional surveyor to check it out.
Good luck

A mobile home has underpinning on the underside, it is what covers the empty space between the trailer and the ground. I have underpinning on my trailer.

Everyone takes things out of context. It is human nature. The same traffic accident observed by 5 different people will have 5 different descriptions. If only we had an omniscient source for truth....

It goes under a mobile home (trailer) to secure it to the ground. It can be brick, metal, etc.
