I say abso-FRIGGIN-lutely! I know parents that don't clean house ever, and don't let their children play outside, and who keep their infants in the crib or high chair or play pen all the time. These parents also don't feed the children until they scream or throw temper tantrums, and don't feed them proper food for the child/infant age range. The state can lay down laws for divorced parents but can't do anything about married ones unless the married parents are neglectful or abusive. With licenses, parents would have to be able to prove that they are capable of raising children properly, and wouldn't that benefit us all????

Absolutely!
My husband and I live in Las Vegas. Just in the last three or so months, there have been two or three dead infants or toddlers found in dumpsters, where no one has stepped forward to claim them. There are so many children at Child Haven (where the Department of Family Services porovides safe housing for children) that they cannot accept any new children! Newborns who are being kept from their parents because they were born addicted have to be held at the hospitals, and they too are overflowing! There are so many cases of child drownings, due to the inattention of the parents or caregivers, and of children being left in cars in 100+ degree heat! There is no excuse for inappropriate or inhumane treatment of children, and if there were a way to license people before they become parents, I'd be all for it!
My husband and I are preparing to become foster parents for my nephew (due to his mother's mental health issues). The paperwork is voluminous, and the questions are very probing. In spite of how arduous the procedure is, it is in place to weed out people doing it for the wrong reasons, much like a screening process for parenthood should be.

Very true. There are tooo many people having kids that should not be. If there were a lisence to have children there would be alot less homless kids on the street, alot less people on wellfare, and most of all laot less kids being abused.

I am all for it! I say neuter people at birth, and if they are responsible enough later on in life, the precedure could be reversed and then they could have kids.
Way too many people out ther having kids when they aren't responsible enough to take care of themselves!

LOL......i like this. Although, some people I believe should have to have some permit to breed. But you're right, being a good responsible parent is very important. It also involves being mature, and accepting responsibility. best of luck to you

Yes. A couple of years ago, I adopted a pound puppy and they put me through a battery of questions, to make sure I was going to take care of him well enough. That makes it harder to adopt a dog than a kid. That is pathetic, and about half of these people who have kids, shouldn't have them because they don't know how to take care of them.

Not everyone is meant to be a parent, there should at least be some kind of mental screening process...
