thrush and what causes it?

what causes thrush, can it just come on its own as i have never had it before

You can get thrush after being on antibiotics for a long time.
Antibiotics can kill all the bacteria including the normal flora or bacteria in your body. Once this is done you are more easily infected with new bacteria commonly oral manifestations like thrush.

It is a yeast infection of the mouth. Babies are the ones who normally get it. Not quite sure how, I think from putting dirty things in their mouths.
