this is debatable.....some people cant be who they are until they feel they are the right gender for them. but on the other side of the debate is the idea that god (if you believe in him) made you the way you are for a reason.
i guess its just whatever floats your boat and makes you happy. i dont see why anyone else should have a problem with it.

Who are you? The vessel (body) that contains you - or some construct of personality, mind, emotions (and spirit/soul for religious folks)?
If you're accepted for medical correction then, psychiatrists and others agree with you that the vessel that contains you is the wrong shape/form.
If you're in the wrong form, how can you be proud?
You can be proud that you're doing (or trying to do) something to correct it, that this "inner you" is so strong as to be prepared to go through with it.
If anything you need to be proud enough of who you are precisely to go through the whole process of transforming gender.

I am a MtF transsexual and I am very proud of the person I am, but not happy with the vessel (my body) I have to use to get around.
Since my body as a male body has nothing to do with me, I see no problem in changing it to match who I am inside, since I am female and it is male. So I don't really see changing my body as changing myself, since, appearance wise, it doesn't really have anything to do with who I really am. I want my body to match the person who has to live in it.
Then, and only then, can I be happy with the entire being, and not just the intellect.

2 years of counsiling will help with this and thats what you need before the docs will do a sex change. Changing your sex is not always the answer. Then who would you be with male or female who would be with you. It could be a lonely life. Anyways get some help!!!!

Not if you truly know that the opposite gender is who you truly are.
I have met some transsexuals that made me scratch my head and say, "What was God thinking, trapping them in that other body/gender when they were so obviously meant to be the way they are now?"

I don't think so. To me, it's a way to be on the outside who you are on the inside.
