If he's a guy you spend a lot of time with, like he's over every day, and he refers to your mother as "mom," then obviously a large portion of your normal routine is missing, so missing him alot would be understandable.
If you're spending this much time with him, though, you need to ask yourself whether or not you would like a romantic relationship with him. Just don't do the friends with benefits thing. It's really just an excuse for guys to get free feel-ups and the girls pretty much will end up hurt. And then you will most likely end up resenting each other. I know so many people who have done this and got screwed over. So if you value your friendship, either give each other some space or see if he is interested enough for a romantic relationship.

Either you are secretly or unknowingly in love with him, or he is just a special person that is a big part of your life (as in a best or good friend), and you miss his presence. Perhaps you need to explore your true feelings for him, and when or if it is appropriate, discuss it with him sometime.
