I think it's because of the scams that some Nigerians are running -- people are associating this with Nigerians in general. Whether that's right or wrong, it's the way so many prejudices and stereotypes develop.

It's not just Nigerians. It's all those of the very dark persuasion who inhabit sub-Sahara Africa. They are all subhuman but not necessarily all bad.
