pretty much all of them suggest it but not all of them require it. you should write one though, even if you arent a great writer like myself, because it shows that you are more interested and dedicated than those who don't write one.

No, the majority of colleges do not require essays, but many of the better institutions will. Regardless, if you plan to apply for any scholarships, definitly write a solid essay you can tweak here and there -- then, if you need an essay, you have one (unless the university's writing prompt is very specific).
Even though most universities do not currently require an admissions essay, I imagine the essay portion of the ACT will become increasingly popular with univerity admissions.

No, but it's a good idea to formulate one great essay that you can change here and there to meet the needs and requirements of those colleges that do require one. Most colleges do require placements tests in Math and written language, so if you're not the best writer in the world, you should practice, practice, practice.

You can look on-line to see some acceptable essays. Don't copy them -- but use them as an idea of what you should do.

no but a lot of schools do but sometimes if you go to their open houses they waive the essay so you don't have to do it.
