Not anymore.

The NFL has taken over as "America's Sport". If you want proof, just look around....it's a 18 week season that the league has turned into a full-year event.

The draft is huge. No other sport gets any sort of media attention remotely close to the NFL. The NBA gets some; but most of that arguably comes from CBB fans tuning in to see where their favorite players went (College Hoops popularity is on the rise, while the NBA's has steadily declined the past 7 years).

The NFL even has the NFL network. This is in ADDITION to the premium subscription of NFL Gameday (which allows you to watch all out-of-market NFL games through your satellite/cable provider) which hundreds of thousands of people gladly pay close to three hundred dollars for.

Baseball was America's pasttime....some might even argue it still is....but Football is America's sport; and is quickly becoming it's pasttime, too.

It is growing, and will hit a growth spurt as the first generation of Soccer kids( in the past ten years Youth soccer has been the most popular kids sport in the US) come of age. Past generations have not fully understood the sport and hence have not followed it well. Now that the MLS is attracting better players and the quality of play has greatly improved these "kids" now grown, and having a better understanding of the sport, will have a better sport to follow with all the trappings of a quality league. When I was a volunteer coach and player, None of the parents on my youth teams understood one thing about soccer. Now youth coaches are paid professionals and 90% of the parents are well informed. this will bode well for Soccer in the next generation. Peace

Biggest sport in America is football (NFL). Soccer has not been marketed the right way. I do think, soccer will become a more popular sport in the next few years.

Because soccer is much older. And America's favorite sport, as far as I'm concerned, is Football.

Because as kids we were "Americanized" to think that soccer is "dumb" or "gay" or "retarded".. but its still one of the best, I for one love both sports, but to answer your question even more... Most country's are so poor that their parents cant afford much more than a soccer ball, and all you really need is a ball, and you can "create the goals" and you can play almost anywhere.
nice question! ;)

because there is only one period for commercial breaks in soccer (at half time) so cannot be as lucrative to television broadcasters that rely heavily on advertising dollars.

baseball, on the other hand, has at least 18 commercial breaks, between innings and half innings, plus all the breaks added when pitchers are changed.
