I have experience in art and design. I have a diploma in model design and Fine Art. I want to go into 3d design. I also have experience in Photoshop and Illustrator. Anyone got any ideas where to look?

If what you're interested in is 3D for gaming and similar, you're competing with people who have been slaving over software for 20 hours per day, so be prepared for some hard work. If you love it, it won't matter - check out the "A" part of this answer. If what you're interested in is the 3D modelling of industrial design and similar, check out the "B" part of the answer.

A) For 3D for gaming and similar, follow these steps.
1) If you haven't already, do everything you can to learn at least a few of the major 3D programs; you should especially know at least one very well and know your way around a few more of the following software programs:

Maya

3D Studio Max

Lightwave 3D

Here are the most requested software packages on job postings :

2) Do some research on the 3D world - you can find tutorials, software information, job information, community discussions (where you can ask all kinds of questions and get advice and insider knowlege) and other community links on the following sites:

3D Links
http://www.3dlinks.com/index.cfm

3D Buzz

3D Ark

3) Check out the vast, vast array of resources available on these directory pages to get more ideas and knowledge:
http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Graphics/3D/

4) Study this list of "Top 10 Tips for Landing a Job In 3D"
http://www.3drender.com/jobs/top1.htm

5) Once you've done all this (to be sure you really understand this world of work) you'll be able to apply for the jobs where you have the skills and knowledge, plus be able to ace the interview and hiring process (you want to be able to answer questions like an insider!). There are links all over for these types of jobs, here's one good list to get you started (and give you an idea of what search terms to use for looking for more):

B) For 3D for industrial design and similar, follow these steps.

1) Learn a 3D program (see above or look at the job descriptions in the links below for other software packages to learn)

2) Learn CAD (not that hard with your background)

3) Check out industrial design sites:
IDSA
http://www.idsa.org/

Core77
http://www.core77.com/

IDFuel
http://www.idfuel.com/

4) Check out the jobs out there to see what employers are looking for:
At the IDSA site

At Coroflot you can do a search on "3D Modelling and CAD" plus "Intern" and "Junior Staff" and choose your country to see a range of jobs (and the kinds of things they look for):

You could look at a job at an art museum or try to get a job at an art studio. If your good with computers than finding a job shouldn't be that hard, get yourself out there. Put a job wanted add in the newspaper, then hopefully results will start to show.

I'm assuming you mean 3D computer design for gaming and special effects? Or do you want to be a model maker for products or movie props?
Either way, check out Coroflot.com. It's a website for designers looking for work. Also, IDSA (industrial designers of america) has a lot of good links and resources on their website.
You should also get a list together of companies you like and check out their websites for job listings.
Good luck!
