Do you think that American women are lucky?

Oprah said once that American girls/women are the luckiest in the world because of the freedom we have here, do you agree? Why/why not?

Yes, I do. Women have sacrificed a great deal through out history and I think that if they saw how we lived today in America those that died would be proud of where we are headed. Granted we aren't there yet but we are futher along then most countries. We can wear what we want, work pretty much where we wish, and say whatever we feel like saying. Its getting to be a pretty sweet deal. But we deserve it.

Uhhh duh!!..........I totally agree, every other women in every other country is either opressed more than women here in america or do not know the meaning of opressed because that is what the whole culture and country is based on for women.

First off look at Latin America the few women who are in power had to fight off sooo many attacks of prejudism that the only way they could be in power is that their parents must have had a lot of money to keep them in school or loved them very much. The rest of the women are just trying to get by in a country with an unstable economy and high crime.

Second look at the women in the Middle East....the major religions are based on complete silence and obedience to the husband at a high degree.

Third in African countries some women undergo genital mutalation as part of the culture and the majority of African countries are considered third world countries....aka countries who are in poverty and have a rocky economy.

Fourth in China and India baby girls would be killled because boys were the more honored and wanted baby since men have the right to take over the family legacy and women are a burden since they have to spend so much energy on a child who sole purpose will be to be married to someone else to produce children and labors for them.

Sixth in many European countries it is harder than in America for a woman to go out and seek her own job. It is frowned upon much more than here.

So now what do you think????

Yes. We can decide whether or not we want to wed, we pick or own spouses, we can decided whether or not we have children and how many. We can have a good education and a good career. We have access to good health-care. We can form and give or own opinions. We have civil rights, freedom and the right to legal representation. Freedom of religion and speech. We can be presidents, governors, mayors, senators, judges, police officers, firemen, soldiers, construction workers, city planners, lawyers, doctors, teachers,....

We have it far better than millions of our sisters so, count your blessings.

Yes. Compared to women in a lot of other countries, we are very lucky. We can dress as we like, work jobs of our choosing, don't have to worry about abiding by insane laws etc.
