Like all major cities, London is not immune to dangerous situations. There were times when I, a uniformed police officer, was frightened. However, the vast majority are helpful, good and honest people. There are a lot of drugs about. The outskirts, places such as Woodford which I know about are very safe whilst Inner areas such as Kings Cross should be avoided especially after dark. Put it this way, it is no worse, and no better than any other large city you have visited...........

I live in London. It's quite spread out and like any city, everywhere has it dodgy bits. Just because a place is busy or affluent, it does not make it any safer than a poorer area. I got my car broken into in one of the richest areas of London in Mayfair.

Everyone will say Brixton because of its history but it now gentrified and very chic. The places that you will venture as a tourist will be far from the less safe areas. The east end is fine but doubt there will be anything for you as a tourist to see there.

Just trust your instincts and be vigilent.

I would say that stratford is the worst part-even though it has a brand new tran station, there is a stabbing within its walls every week. My husband worked there as a SOCO and was there all the time mopping up blood.

I would say the safest part of town would probably be Richmond and Putney-though that is hardly Zone one-but then again, neither is Stratford.

Avoid the east end. One of the nicest area's in London is Mayfair. SoHo is fun, but beware of pick pockets. The bottom line is anywhere you go in London that has tourist attractions, it is safe - just use common sense with your wallet or purse and you will be fine.
