J.K. Rowling said recently that she can understand why authors kill of their main character to prevent any “non-author-written sequels” so my question is if Harry was killed off and you were a low rate author looking to cash in on the Harry Potter phenomenon how would you write book 8?
A couple of ideas I had were Harry Potter the aftermath, a drama with a hint of comedy which follows Harry’s friends as they try to cope with Harry’s demise and try to find someone to replace him and the whole school tries to imitate Harry by dressing the same and wearing Harry’s glasses(the film could have Ronnie Corbett guest appearing trying to fill Harry’s shoes).
Or Harry Potter the revival, (literally), a horror where Harry’s friends search for a forbidden spell to bring Harry back to life but they only manage to bring back his rotting soulless body and they spend the rest of the movie trying to send him back to the grave(good idea for the movies as it has endless possibilities for sequels)
Or Harry Potter the boy that time forget, 3000 years into the future and Harry awakes in a time without magic where science has taken over and Harry has to adapt to his new life and forget about magic until he discovers his arch nemesis has awoken too and the fate humanity lies in his rediscovery of magic, will he prevail?
Well those are my ideas can you come up with any better ideas?

WOW!!! I see what you mean re:http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ai_P0TfFxUmB6DKl2qLGQ7wgBgx.?qid=20060630064744AAUQm6W

I'm afraid I'm not into Harry Potter, so I'm not sure about that sort of thing, but I think if i was going to nick the series and do it myself I would have the red-headed lad as the lead, we don't see enough red-heads in lead roles, he would raise an army and train a dragon to work for him, then (because I don't really like HP and would want to end it for good after making a bit of money off it), I would let the baddies win! Muhahahahahahahahahahahaha *cough* hahahahahahaahahahahahaetcetc

I do like your ideas, they are much better than mine. :)

I don't think it would be right 4 another author 2 take over the Harry Potter series, cause it wouldn't be the same and i hope that J K Rowling don't kill Harry, but i believe that in the 7th book that both Harry and Voldemort will be killed and i do like some of the answers that has been given, cause everyone, at some point has a good imagination.

There will not be a series to continue after book 7. It's possible with what she has set up so far, that Harry could die, but that would mean that evil would triumph and I don't think that is where the books have been going. Anyway, "Good must always triumph over evil. Do ye not know that?"

J K Rowling will not want to carry on, and I wouldn't want her to.
However, as Harry Potter lives in a world of magic there are any number of ways he could be brought back to life.

How about a book in which Harry is a ghost?

I love some of these answers! They are very good! I hope that JK doesn't kill off Harry and changes her mind about there only being 7 books in the series.

Why can't we just let things end as they are supposed to end?

Harry Potter was planned as a seven book series - whether Harry dies at the end or not.

If you want to imagine how the story goes on afterwards, that's your prerogative, but trying to cash in on a dead cow usually results in jumping the shark. (That's either one of the silliest or most profound statements I've made in my whole life.)

I don't think its possible that there would be a Book 8 but J.K. Rowling may suddenly write one but then I doubt it. -__- But still, I would probably end it when they are all grownup and have families and stuff like that and the Harry death thing....well Idk.
