Yes, it was unfair and it was cheating. But no team, be it a club team or a national team, can claim the moral high ground when it comes to 'gamesmanship' or cheating. Not all incidents of cheating are as high profile as the Italy one, but there are plenty I could name that have cost football teams/clubs dearly.
The onus should be on FIFA to bring in video refereeing technology to eliminate the possibility of teams being screwed over like this. In an ideal world you would like the players to have some sense of morals and responsibility, and some do, but the gamesmanship will continue as long as people can get away with it. It's a real shame for the team that get's screwed though (until they screw some other poor team themselves of course!).

Italy are the biggest whinging divers going
(Beating the OLD argentina), shame really coz they are a good team,

But look at the blatent NON-PENALTY they won for falling over the aussie...

PANTS! It seems to be the style of play for these teams tho,

Italy, Argentina, Portugal (Ronaldo lmfao!) etc, the league system doesnt crack down hard enougth. Cant blame the players if the refs let them get away with it!

PLUS the Refs seem to be 'Leaning towards' the 'Bigger' teams and helping them out into the last 16 / 8 etc

France Spain should be a weird one, cant have a biased ref there... lol

The Austrailian defender should have known better than to slide in the box. The Italian player did flop, but the defender gave him the opportunity, in the final minutes of a game that important you don't take the chance of sliding in on forward in the box, at least if he beats you there are other players in there and he's still got to get the ball past the keeper. PK's are like giving away goals...

Um, I think you need to check your facts! :) The game yesturday was Italy vs. Australia. Italy won, and Australia lost. The score was 1 to 0. I was upset because Australia was my 2nd favorite team. England is my 1st.

Are you saying Italy vs Australia? I agree, it was a bad call. I hope Ukraine can beat Italy.
