people that have problems with drinking are refered to as alchoholics not druggies

Believe it or not people in some states a minor is aloud to drink if they are with a parent or legal gurdian and said parent or gaurdian takes responsibilty for their actions. So the illegal thing is not a good or educated response

Hell, I might just hafta MAKE them drink w/ me. They're kinda young, yet, but there's never anyone around to hammer down shots, play quarters, and do bong-hits with. Mama wants to party, dammit!!

Unless you are naive, you have to realize your kids are going to try drinking in high school. I feel like it is better for them to know they can call you if they have been drinking and can't drive. I want my children to know I may not approve of everything they do, but I will listen and try to understand. I was young once also. I rather my child be at home drinking with me watching over than out at a club. I would say their junior year about 16 or 17. Like I said they are probably going to drink regardless, so let them know they can confide in you. My parents were cool with stuff like that, and I never went out drinking trying to hide from them. Most of the time people ended up at my house with a mom or dad who could keep and eye out. Good Luck!!

Wel the correct answer is when they are legal but having said that ........

I grew up with my parents letting me have some of their drink whenever they drank (which was only on occasion). This totally demystified alcohol for me. So unlike my friends who were always like woo hoo I'm going to go party at so and so's house and they're going to sneak some alcohol and we're gonna get so drunk.....I felt like SO WHAT? I've been drinking alcohol since I was old enough to ask for a sip it's no big deal. So that approach worked for me and my siblings, none of us have or have ever had alcohol issues

18 is an adult so 18 as far as I'm concerned, even though in Wisconsin there is no age limit if the kid is with a parent. Some wine at 16 with meals etc. would be ok with me also.

us as children were alloved a small glass (about 2 oz or 1/4cup) of wine on new years from the time we were 8 or 9 years old

we were taught there was nothing wrong with alcohol, but there was sometimes things wrong with people that they drank too much

the first time I was in a bar was 15 years and yes it was LEGAL my mom bought me a drink also LEGAL and we had a good time

teach your kids responsibility not fear and you will avoid problems with alcohol (and drugs and sex too)

Never. A parent should lead by example. Drinking alcohol and offering it to a child is wrong. There is a reason they have a legal drinking age. However, drinking leads to irresponsible behavior. Why would you want to put yourself in bad situations, or even worse, your child?

Number one I would hope that my daughter would trust me enough to come to me first for anything drinking, drugs, boys , whatever so that i can teach her the right way not have her learn it from some idiot who had a drug addict or alcoholic or prostitute for a family memeber saying it was ok and all that

as for age well its all on them like someone said you have to realize that sometimes peer pressure is stronger then brains in some occasion you just got to trust that your kid is smatrt enough to know better
