hi pinku. its the science which deals with guns and bullets. when ever a bullet is fired, it gets scratched by the barrel of the gun in a particular way. it is totaly unique. no other gun can creat the same type of scratches on the bullet. its like the finger print of humans. when ever a crime takes place, it can be found out from a group of guns that from which gun was the bullet fired. and from that gun's licence number, person can be identified. thus, forensic experts use this technique to catch the culprit.
to do this, a bullet is fired from the gun in the laboratory. it is fired at a certain angle in water tank that prevents it from getting scratched from any other outer obstacle. then the bullet is put under microscope and its photograph is taken. same is done with the bullet which is found on the crime scene. then both the photographs are matched.
also, it can tell the distance from which the bullet was fired. when ever a bullet is fired, it gets heated up due to gunpowder burning. this results in burning of human skin when it enters it. so, the greater the distance, less is the burn.
it can also tell that which gun was used.

hope that i was able to answer your question.
NOTE:- bhai, kisi ko thok mat dena! hahaha......

good luck!

Forensic Science Ballistics

Ballistics is the science of bullets and weapons.Specifically, the study of bullets, trajectories and so on.

Forensics... scientific tests to find out about a crime...

forensic ballistics at work would include the study of a bullet found at a scene, matching it to a particular type of gun, and if the specific gun was found, the scientists would even be able to match the bullet to the specific gun.

It is not just matching guns. Forensic ballistics can also determine how the bullet travelled from the gun to the target, whether it was shot point blank, or from a certain distance. Gunpowder spreads further from the wound the farther away the shooter is.

It is using ballistics (eg guns and bullets) to solve crimes. It is VERY important because you can trace a bullet's path to determine a lot of things about the crime, verify or disprove a witnesses story, and figure out if a bullet came from a certain person's gun.

That's when you examine bullets used in crime to figure out what kind of gun and what specific gun it came from as well as from what distance, angle, through what substance, etc.... It's importance is in crimes committed where a gun is fired to figure out who did it!
