I grew up in the Midwest. Bonanza was a favorite program the whole family watched. But then, Johnny Cash would come through on his tours. My grandparents remember Lorne Greene as the "Voice of Doom" during the World War. Greene went from the family favorite Bonanza to Adama in Battlestar Galactica. And he also put out some records. The only one I can remember right now was something called "Ringo" and I don't mean Star. My son discovered Cash when Johnny sang his rendition of NIN's song "I Hurt Myself Today." Johnny remade himself over several times, Madonna's not the only one doing that. Johnny's producers thought he was a nut job when he wanted to tour prisons and almost dropped him. They forgot that prisoners have families and when Folsom Prison Blues and other prison songs came out of his prison tours his records sold by word of mouth. As he got older, Nashville unabashedly dropped him, and he and June started all over again under his own label.
Lorne Greene may have fought many a battle on the Ponderosa, but Johnny Cash fought his demons in real life and won the heart and soul of his fans.
Yup, I definitely KNOW Cash could kick @$$, but he'd do it quick and clean.

I don't know who Lorne Greene is, but no one comes close to Johnny Cash. He was The Man.

Google gave me this:
"Long before millions of Americans knew Lorne Greene on the popular western series Bonanza, he was known to Canadians as 'The Voice of Doom...'"
So... um... yeah... Johnny Cash, man.
