Arnold is in over his head.

He obviously thought he could get his agenda through by popularity, and there was hope that his wife would influence him.

But in the end he just played the role of the Conservative, cutting things the majority of Californians want.

Remember that he got less than half the votes for govener in the pluraty of the recall election......and boy do they regret it.

He should make Conan Three and then retire....

it's easy. When teachers and nurses unions have rediculous demands. Look up the issues. Teachers want to be totally protected via tenure. I believe they should be held more responsible and if they aren't performing, get rid of them. Teachers have a problem with pay raises as the economy of the state grows. They believe money grows on trees and screw the tax payer having to pay that money. The teachers unions want to use the teachers union dues to support any political campaigne they wish. The Governor just wants the union to get written permission first from its members. There is also the redistricting issue, but I need to see more information on that before I make a judgment call.
Now let's cover the Nurse issues:
Again the UNIONS have a problem with getting written permission from their members to use the dues for their political advancements. (seeing a trend here)
The nurses union wants no budget cuts. Well if you have no money, somebody needs to give a litlle somewhere. After all California leads the nation in provided care for Illegals. Let's be realistic here. Nurses aren't working for free or even near free. California also enjoys very strict patient/nurse ratio's. (my sister is a nurse in Cal.)
So my research is telling me that the Governor is trying to help the ALL the citizens of the state of California not just the special interest groups. Whereas the UNION as always, is looking to help itself. As for the unions biggest supporter Nancy Pelosi, do yourself a favor and find out just how many Union workers she has working for her in her many businesses. Now that is shameful.

RE: teacher unions - They are protecting - and continually giving raises - to people who are not teaching the children anything. California's public school system is one of the worst in the United States - basically on par with 3rd world countries. And these people want better benefits and more money? Why not start doing the job they're paid for?

Look at private schools where teachers are held responsible for the children's grades on standardized tests - and can be fired for non-performance.

America's public education system is just another method Democrats have devised to keep minority students from making anything of themselves.

Because no matter what a Republican does in office, unions will never support them. If unions are completely against the GOP what do they owe the unions?

Politicians no matter the party support those that support them.

Unions are awful. They really hurt the economy and have even driven some industries to the ground. (Steel and American auto industry are the biggest ones that come to mind.) But as it seems you have your mind made up about him already, why are you asking?
