It depends on when you ovulate. If you have ovulation cycles like I do you are not safe, I ovulate on day 8-10 of my cycle, with 5 days of menstruation, which means I can get pregnant right away after my menstruation. It all depends on how long or short your periods are, you need to get to know your body, know when you ovulate. I think it is much more safer to have intercourse after ovulation, because once the egg is released it would live for up to 24hrs. after that you are fine,. but having sex before ovulation it is much more risky because the sperms live for up to 5 days if in the right temperature, so they can stay there waiting for that little egg to be released. But to just be sure, use protection!

Please ask your question more clearly. Contact "Planned Parenthood" and they can explain the entire ovulation process which is what you are questioning. I am pretty sure that within eight days after menstuating you are even more fertile. But don't quote me on that. Here's a thought....abstinence or birth control and then you don't have to guess!
