The problem is that acouple years back my husband got busted with a little bag of cocaine(mainly the residue) and had to pay these huge fines and was on probation...will this affect us in any way if one day we plan to adopt...will we be denied because of this??? His probation is over and he has also completed drug counseling the court requested...The drugs werent even his but they were found in his car so ofcourse he was responsible for them..anyway, weve been trying to conceive for about 7 months now and nothing...so adoption is something i might want to do. will we be able to?

My husband and I are in the process of adopting. While my record was squeaky clean, I married a man that "sowed some wild oats" so to speak. He was arrested 3 times for DUI as well as having prescription drugs in his possession that were not his. This was all before we were married and we've been married for 10 years.

When we had our homestudy done we informed the social worker about the trouble my husband had been in. She was very friendly and told us that she appreciated our honesty. She also said that the agency would look at our honesty as a step of good faith and would only "black flag" us or "kick us immediately out" if we had hidden the truth....because they always find out in the background check anyway.

So, they had us do the background check and then my husband had to write a personal letter stating what he learned from the mistakes he made and whether or not he still drank or not. (Which he doesn't).

I'm not sure about domestic adoptions since we are internationally adopting. Some countries are more strict about being "forgiving" while others are willing to overlook past mistakes. Your social worker will be able to tell you which countries are your best bet and whether or not his past will hurt you in a domestic adoption.

Don't give up. Even though your husband has made some poor judgments in the past you most certainly can offer these children opportunities and love that they otherwise may never receive.

You won't be able to adopt. Once a criminal, always a criminal. I don't even recommend you to have your own because it would be really bad to bring a baby to a world of drugs. You can be in rehab but will never quit. I'm glad to hear that at least he paid for his crime, because doing drugs is a crime. Another thing, drugs might have affected his sperm and/or the quality of the sperm, so even if you get pregnant your baby might not be healthy.

keep trying to concieve..usually doctors tell you to try for up to 1 year under the age 35 and 6 mths over the age of 35. I'm not exactally for sure about adoption since i never have but I do knw that they have a background check and social workers come to your house to make sure that it is sutable for a child to live in...including both of your reactions to each other.

Don't give up on conceiving! It can take a long time, and it no one's fault...just nature. If after a year you still have not conceived, see a doc about how to boost your chances.
