BTW..the cost of living in Florida is much less than it is in Northern VA (Where I'm from) right outside of DC, it's ridiculous up here.

Don't listen to these people who warn of all the terrible hurricanes. I live in Florida and can tell you that it isn't bad at all. The benefits greatly outweigh the risks. Can hurricanes be devastating? Absolutely, but - most of the time when a hurricane hits Fl., it's a relatively small one. If you are well prepared (storm shutters, food, water, etc.), it's not usually much more than an inconvenience. AND a hurricane can hit Virginia too.

SW Fl. Gulf coast is absolutely amazing. The sunsets are glorious! Life is a lot slower paced down here, so if you are looking for hustle and bustle and 24 hour pizza delivery, you won't find it in most places in Fl. The Gulf Coast is extremely laid back. Most of the year, you will find that it isn't all that heavily populated either. However, in the winter months there will be more people because that area of the state seems to be a magnet for elderly snowbirds.

Finding work, depending on what you do, may be a challenge. But there are plenty of jobs to be had if you look.

If you do decide to move or visit down here, don't miss the opportunity to visit Sanibel/Captiva islands, you will fall in love. Absolutely amazing!

I live in Virginia and I would like to do the same thing. V
a is pretty and nice and all but it can be boring. Plus, I get sick of the cold weather. I guess it depends on what you are looking for. Good Luck! :)

Hmm...should you get away from Northern Virginia's overcrowded population, ridiculous traffic, and overpriced everything to go to the beach? Absolutely. Sure, there are hurricanes but if you prepare yourself it's manageable...at least you don't have to deal with cold and snow storms. Make the move. Hey, if you regret it you can always go back.

You'd leave the beautiful state of Virginia to go live in Hurricane Alley?

I were on Gulf Coast and East Coast. Gulf Coast in my opion is more advantageous effective. castle Myers coastline is particularly effective. so is Clearwater coastline. i imagine the water on the East Coast (Daytona and Miami) is less warm no longer as sparkling and blue.

Do you like sun, water, and high quality life? then yes move. Do you like snow, skiing and changing seasons then no don't move. Hurricanes aren't bad, just don't buy an old rickity house, and stay out of the major flood zones.

The cost of living is a little more and there is a greater chance of weather problems. Stay where you are. Good luck.
