I am developing a network of organisations toward collaborating on programmes to address community issues such as community safety. Some organisations are not used to working with others so have not shown willingness. What can I do to inspire these organisations play?

Explain the benefits that can be achieved for each organization and how their image will be looked upon by the community as a whole. For example by being apart of your network the name of their organization will automatically be a part of your advertising campagn by just being a part of your network ( organizations loves free advertising), or people will see their organization as being an ambassador of the community and as a result this could bring them more community business. I am sure you could think up many benefits for each organization.

You may have to explain to each organization different benefits but remember that each organization may have different needs and have different goals.

If you work your network into the needs and goals of each organization you may get a more willingness on the part of all the organizations to be involved. Good luck

It is natural that some organizations would not go with others, what ever the noble cause may be.
Reason is simple.
First is fear factor- Fear of loosing their identity
Second is- Ego
However we have to achieve what we want to do?
My solution – tell your objective to those who understand and make them to be with you
As you gain the numbers to support you goal, slowly enlarge you trust radius to rest of the organizations.
The most important factor is the purpose not the name of the people or organization.
As you get more and more organizations evolve a minimum common approach so that that all community organizations’ interest is taken .
This program of uniting all is a long time implementation so allow time factor

Delegate. Give each organization a topic, with emphasis on their specialty. A group that works with children could start a program to teach playground safety, A group that works with elderly might also work with transportation issues. If you give a specific topic rather than saying keep me informed, or jusy call and ask them what kinds of programs they have will get better results, because you won't come across as yet another layer of beaurocracy. God luck.

have small meetings with the key people of each group slowly bring them together and slowly making this invitation to the wider community. There are organisations that actually do this,. They are the local police force they a safer neibourhood scheme that brings people groups together but I haven't used them as yet myself.

That sounds a twin of something a burned out loser lib who has spent all his/her time because the 60's catching a buzz and coming up with delicate-feely kooky concepts would promote. They scary component is that in a persons' innovations this stupid concept made sense. And, i trust, there is probably some style of taxpayer funding going to a non-income to prop this lib loser concept up.

To inspire anyone to do anything you need to:

1) set a good example,
2) find out what they want and show them how to get it
3) point to the shared goals, aims, visions
4) work with those who are willing to work with you to establish a track record
5) don't preach
6) don't whine
7) don't nag
8) do share information
9) do explain
10) do encourage

They are probably afraid that their issues will not be given equal attention in the new system. You must set up the system to make sure everyone is heard. Remember, everyone thinks that their issue is the most important.

Good luck. Despite the outward appearance, all groups have their own agenda. Getting them to move towards on goal is tricky at best.
