I just bought tickets to Dubai, and I will be flying United and Virgin Airlines. Virgin is my favorite airline, but generally if you go through their website you will pay a ton of money. So the best places to look first of all is kayak.com. This is a great website that allows you to type in your dates and it will compare several different airlines and discount websites to find you the best deal. You can also compare by time of departure, and different dates. I ended up buying my tickets off of Orbitz.com, and I'm flying from DC to London to Dubai for less than $1000.
Also, if you're looking for great airlines, I've heard Emirates Air is one of the nicest. I've never flown it, because I love flying Virgin Airlines so much, but I've heard a lot of recommendations for it. If you can find a cheap Virgin flight, definitely take that one. You won't regret it, I've flown Virgin Airlines all around the world and have never had a bad flight! Good luck!
