I've heard that saying quite often. Im not sure if its true or not though.

No I think the horticulturists did develop thornless roses, but had to go back to the single rose (one ring of petals). Check with your local florist.

There is a type of rose that is thornless, but I forget the name- though quite possible it is the "thornless rose".
