You can never go wrong with emulating Jackie Kennedy.
A nice blazer and skirt combo, in a color that complements you and isn't stand-offish (maybe a nice salmon or lavender) and a nice blouse and pearls around the neck and nice earrings would do.
Otherwise I'd go for a black dress, knee-length, sleeveless as it is summer, always classy, always chic. Red lipstick unless you are dark skinned or very fair with very light hair. Otherwise lipgloss, black mascara, hair in a bun, pearls again make the statement or another nice necklace. I'd suggest a shawl or something to throw over the shoulders, and a hat from the sun.

I am not really comfortable in dresses so I would wear some tailored slacks, probably in a tan color with some sling back, comfortable shoes and a close fitting jacket over a beaded tank top. Top it off with some sexy earrings and you are good to go. The comfortable shoes are important for the polo game. You don't want to walk across grass in stiletto heels.

A white dress with colorful accesories, and bug hat and sunglasses, and heels. Or do a black dress.
The dress should be nos horter than right at your knees.
Also, if it will we colder that night, take a button up cardigan.
I kind of need more details.. like the weather? =]
