The patience of a saint. and a frim but not heavy hand with discipline, a good education, strong language skills (good diction), an apreciation of the balance between work and play. And most important my child should at the end of a day talk about him/her with reverence and a bit of awe but not fear.

You should probably check the references that they give you. It's very hard to trust kids with strangers and you need to really check that out.
The hidden camera idea is probably a good one. You hear too many abused kids that can't tell how they get bruised or hurt. That is one good investment.
But I would check the agency, if you go to one. There are day care centers for young kids. Check to see what's in the neighborhood or ask your neighbors if they know someone who would babysit.
