I mean they start shooting throwing chairs and all these crazy things just because they didn't win it. There is always the next time.

Well, it only happens every four years and when it does come around - The FIFA World Cup holds the entire global public under its spell. An accumulated audience of over 37 billion people watched the France 98 tournament, including approximately 1.3 billion for the final alone, while over 2.7 million people flocked to watch the 64 matches in the French stadia. These numbers top even the Olympics!

I lived in Italy for about 10 years, and when I got married there, my family came over for the wedding. My brother is a HUGE football fan, and loves many of the teams in Italy. We got tickets for him and my cousin to see a game in Genova - they were playing a team from Bologna - he was utterly amazed when he got there. First, the visiting team fans had to be escorted into the stadium from the Carabinieri (the nations police) and then they were in a confined area that was covered in non-breakable glass (and bullet proof!) It was not until then that my brother really understood the passion that these countries have for their teams - it is like a religion - countries go in mourning if they loose!

So WHY DO THEY GET SO UPSET?? - every four years, each country picks their top players and pray, chant, scream etc.. for them to win.. and if they do.. it is worth more to the country than any Gold Olympic medal.

Just Look at this for a line up and tell me that isn't one of the most impressive squads in the championship.
Brazil: Dida, Cafu, Lucio, Juan, Carlos, Emerson, Ze Roberto, Kaka, Ronaldinho, Adriano, Ronaldo. Subs: Cicinho, Cris, Fred, Gilberto, Julio Cesar, Juninho, Luisao, Mineiro, Ricardinho, Rogerio, Silva.
Just to see these players perform on the world stage is what it's all about. Some may be a bit past their prime, but as performers they are masterful. (PS. However I hope Ghana do them over !)
I also think if you have to ask the question your probably on the wrong site!

Let me correct you, the people who are doing all these crazy things are mainly two teams: Germany and England. Neither of these two teams have been eliminated. These people are Hooligans, they drink too much and start fights for the littlest thing. It's not because of the World Cup, it's because people are looking for fights.

it's is great to pretend to be enthusiastic about the World Cup games, it winds my wife up a treat. A fine excuse for not washing the dishes too. And drinking more beer, without which the games would be meaningless.

It's not just a boy thing, responder down there. It's the biggest thing in football. If you have any love for the game you watch it. It's more exciting then a world series or a NFL final. Superbowl whatever its called.

Whenever national pride is involved it stirs emotions. Some people definitely take it too far, but the majority of fans are well behaved and would condemn the few rotten apples that spoil the barrel.

I don't know...I hate soccer...I don't see the point...The score is usually 1 to 0 and it's boring...People kick the soccer ball and it ends up where people started kicking it or in the goal...People are crazy if they don't win...They need to take Anger Management classes!
