al gore now says global warming is a fact! theres no "proof" man's made greenhouse gases thatve effected the ecosystem, casuing higher temps. the fact is in in the mid 1980s many of these same planetary scientists sd mans pollutions (which i agree we produce too much and we need regulating) is causing COLDER temps. that we were heading into a "mini ice age" if we didnt stop (the same things) were doing! their "proof" came from temp record variations showing how much colder our planet was. the 80s showed 2-5 degrees colder from +100yrs b4. pointing to an ice age. the storms hurricanes etc were worse, then ever! and then the "MEGA Snow Storms" of the early to mid 1990s HIT the eastern seaboard! EEEK, ITS HERE ITS HERE the ICEAGE is HERE!
the superfund in 1976* had nothing to do with greenhouse effects. it was to do with corp/ag & personal accountability for polluting the environment. corporations & their dumping chemicals, farmers insecticides, & families all polluted our water tables

read the official papers from the 80s dude, and rationalize why our iceage didnt come 15yrs ago as was predicted by your peers in the scifi community who were this go round PAID for their reports supporting global warming. if any didnt they ran a stated risk of having their grants and funding "pulled" turn off captn kangaroo and grow up. o reilly is an idiot who i gladly forgot existed

Coragryph: Yes, there was a dip in temperatures 20+ years ago, when those studies came out. I was on the east coast when several of those snow storms hit between 1978 and 1986, and they were some of the worst on record at the time.
Then, scientists spend 20 more years gathering data. And found out that their estimates and projections in the 1980s were wrong. So they said they were wrong, and released new studies based on further research.
That's the scientific process. The fact that a politician is trying to spread the message doesn't make the message invalid. Thousands of scientists all around the world, not to mention over a hundred other countries, all agree that there is a problem.
How much of a problem? We don't know. That's why it's worth studying. But if you know you're headed for a cliff, and you're not sure how far ahead the cliff is, doesn't it make sense to start slowing down now, just in case?

the study came out in '86, not b4 then. bc we had created a greenhouse effect we were making conditions for another mini ice age. The 9 or so scientists who insisted we had made our world colder thru greenhouse effects were shown to be in error by 91 planetary scientists. which is why they didnt sign off on their findings. when the MEGA snow storms of 93/96 hit they tried to restate their false findings as a reality in fact.
it isnt progress when its based on scientific proof. just as it is still scientifically proven blacks and women arent on par with white males. no country is on board w/global warming. theyre on board w/global funding. much as they are nuke funding
How much of a problem? We don't know. everyone agrees science doesnt show prove and therefore doesnt know. im not worried whats in the rd ahead. i have instruments and a working mind. along with experiential wisdom to pro-act. the only thing proved is pollution as a greenhouse effect is a possibility, not fact

i dont shrug it off anymore than i accept anything without personal research. try it, ive worked in the fields of nuke hazwaste handling for nearly 20yrs. no scientist despite their salary or the offer for funding will lie or falsify findings just to get a grant. because they have personal integrity. theres only a handful who agree with it and none agree completely so, but as i sd pollution as in car exhaust IS a problem. one ive spent a career working to resolve. read all, or be as naive as you choose to be. reuben

Ignore Al Gore if that makes you feel better. That has nothing to do with the issue.

Global warming is real. Why else would the polar ice caps be melting which in turn affects weather patterns and animals. Polar bears are resorting to cannibalism to survive or they drown because their habitat is disappearing. Wake up. Whether you like Al Gore or not global warming is an issue. The Earth's temperature is the highest it's been in 2000 years...that was just released last week. The majority of scientists believe that global warming is a result of humans. There is a very very small group that contests this. Instead of believing that it's propaganda, do some research for yourself and form and educated opinion.

Uh, dude, you must have missed the recent Congressional inquiry, paid for by the Republicans, that found that not only is global warming a reality, it's also caused by humans. You might also have missed the recent summit, where 900 peer reviewed scientific papers were submitted which prove global warming exists, as opposed to the conservative panel, which comprised Michael Crichton, author of Jurrasic Park.
Turn off the O'Reilly and wake up.
EDIT
The question is not whether predictions made in the 80s came true or not, the question is whether or not our future, and especially our childrens future is at risk by our current actions. And scientists the world over are coming to the same conclusion: we are!
And Al Gore didn't say he invented the internet, halfwit, that is conservative slander, discredited years ago:
http://www.snopes.com/quotes/internet.asp
Gore co-sponsored the legislation that created defensenet, a project that military computers and later grew into the worldwide web.
He was pretty much the "Alpha Geek" in the senate from the early 80's, sponsoring and promoting internet related legislation and helping remove the legal obstacles to make the modern internet possible.
While the claim, "I invented the internet," is exaggeration to the point of hubris, Gore was instrumental in the rapid growth of the information superhighway and with Bill Bradley led the group of technogeeks which became known as the "Atari Democrats."
What he really said was:
During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system.
WHICH HE DID

The idea of "Global Warming" is a farce, as far as concerning what causes it. You must remember that eons ago there was another period when the polar icecaps melted. What caused it? Dinosaur farts?
The fact is the Sun has been expanding and therefore heating up areas farther away.
The Democrats have adopted this conspiracy to appease the far-left tree huggers & fellow environmentalists. You ever notice that us common people must walk or ride a horse, while the elitists like Gore get to ride in comfort in gas guzzlers?

It doesn't matter whether or not mankind is the ultimate reason. Greenhouse gases are rising and global warming is happening. Even if the increase is entirely natural, lowering our greenhouse emissions WILL have an effect and could very well save us from ecological disaster. It is our imperative to do everything possible to keep our world inhabitable and lowering greenhouse emissions will most certainly help in that fight. It's so absurd to say, "It's natural, so obviously there's nothing we can do." Would you sit by while our coasts become seafloors?

Global Warming is a scare tactic. The only reason it is ever debated in Congress is to pander to voters that actually believe that garbage.
As for Al Gore, he has completely lost it. If he believes so much in this cause, why didn't he do anything when he was in OFFICE!!

whether al gore's movie is accurate or not is despite the point. global warming is a serious issue that has not reached global awareness (or at least acknowledgment) until now.
the fact that you are on this page discussing this serious issue and making comments about it shows success in itself.
now it is up to you to educate yourself on the facts...please do not choose to look away from this matter.

OMG - read the facts! If you ignore what's so obviously a problem, you are part of the problem. Stop making it a political issue - the environment affects everyone equally. We can't keep living like we do. Too many of you have become cynical, and we are all suffering because of this. Educate yourself. Listen to both sides. You owe it to every person in the world to be more careful and be more aware.

Politics has gotten too much like religion. You are expected to follow the "Holy writ" as handed down to you leader without question. Any attempt to put forth facts that dispute the basic premise are viewed as heresy and must be ridiculed instead of logically debated.
