My fiance and I noticed a smell coming from one of our cabinets in the kitchen, we opened the cabinet door and noticed the smell was stronger. We assumed that there was a dead critter underneath the cabinet because there was in inordinate amount of flies, flying around the house. We tried looking underneath the cabinet but it is a solid piece that goes directly to the floor and any inspection would've meant destroying the counter. Then a few days later we noticed our pergo floor in the kitchen started raising on the edges and noticed an audible squish when stepped upon. Can water decaying wood beneath our floor cause fly infestation?

It could draw them into the house. Do you have any plants or anything that you have brought into the house? Are all of the door and window screens in place? I wouldn't worry so much about the flies as I would the leaky pipe. That could cost a fortune to fix not to mention your water bill.
