They are the worst have seen in 36 years of watching of this sport. Some bad calls will inevitably be made , BUT pure common sense and experience if not someone from FIFA explaining common sense to these wannabes who are trying to either fill the “Collina void” for their own egotistical purposes, or making money through corruption linked to wagering, or being just plain incompetent (which I don’t buy in all cases beacause some of them have good track records) MUST be a part of any successful World Cup. I am questioning, for the first time, the credibility of this game. Seriously. NOBODY can make a call like the one yesterday against Austrailai with like one seond to play. An OFFICIAL must never allow to decide a match that crucial when the “foul” in a PENALTY BOX is NOT clear. France was denied a CLEAR goal that no official I have ever known could have missed. Shevchenko flopped in the box and dove. Ghana was GIVEN the game by an undeserved PK too. Yellow/red cards galore? STUPID!

I can see this as easily being one of the worse WC officiating to date due to the fact that the main topic of conversation has been about the refs and the enormous amount of red and yellow cards and less about the game being played. I disagree that the game itself is not credible, but more the refs trying to be the focal point and putting each individual game into their own hands instead of letting the players play. FIFA will definitely take a long hard look at this once the Cup is over.

I agree. Many of the officals are rather biast and have caused many cruel mistakes which have left teams walking home for no reasons. These officals and refs have a huge responsibility on their shoulders and yet they seem to be controlling who steps up and who goes home. These officals and refs have to realise that this isn't some just game. Many hearts and careers are broken and it's all because of some silly mistake that shouldn't have happened in the first place. If refs are unsure, they should check back on the recorded game play before any penalty kicks are issued and in saying this, every penalty kick should be double checked even if the ref is sure. I personally don't think that refs should be allowed the last and final word. This isn't their game, yet they seem to be the ones playing some type of game. Wake up guys, too many hearts have broken and here you guys are still breaking more. I think each team which has been sent home for no reason deserves an apology from refs.

No. If you being watching the game for 36 years, you know that. May be on quantity, but many crucial mistakes had been made before As examples, I'll give you two, with one team: Argentina's hand of god goal in 1986, and penalty for Germany on the 1990 final. On that last one, the player, after 16 years, recognized a few days ago, that it wasn't a foul. By the way, you don't see Argentinians crying about it, like the English do about " the hand of god".

The referees are simply following the instructions they've been given by FIFA and there's been a BIG push in soccer to eliminate simulation (taking dives), unsporting behavior, and dissent.
As for the Italian penalty kick, I agree that it was not a foul, but your comment about a referee not making a call in the last few seconds is WAY off the mark. If the referee though it was a foul, he should call it no matter what stage of the game you are in. The possible game results are not to factor into the referee's decision of whether or not to call a foul.

If you are complaining about the US fortune yes...that penelty that Ghanna got to seal the deal was a bad call..clearly both players were going for the ball that was a lousy call...Also in the Italy game which i think should have been 10-10 went to 9 on 10 because of an absolutely retarded call it was a tackle there had been like 100 of those all game...Its good to see that that guy who "reffed" that game is no longer reffing that game.
If you are complaining about the Australia vs. Italy game and the shot that was awarded..That was a good call...First of all in that kind of timing in the game you cant be tackling...the Australian must play defence and stand his ground rather then dive at the ball and the guy...He mad a bad move that sadly cost him and his team the game.

In 2002 the referees were pretty bad. After that fifa said that they would only designate the best referees, regardless of what country they are from. In theory they were gonna pick the best out there. Fifa has failed once again, maybe on purpose. Bad referees make for bad games and they usually favor the powerhouses over the smaller teams. I want to look very closely at Brazil-Ghana's referee. It is almost guaranteed that he will make a mistake in favor of the Brazilians, it is sickening.

they dont always see everything from the perfect TV shot angle so they cant always make perfect calls. although what they should do is have them watch the recording of it afterward so they can re judge orsomething. but thats the way it is. i would never want that job. someone might kill me or something if I made a mistake that changed the outcome of the game. some people are really that obsessed :(

Good job venting. I agree, this referees have taking it to another level. It's ridiculous, this is what happens when FIFA becomes too strict. Referees no longer know what common sense is.
