Take control of your workout routine yourself. Put pen to paper and draw up a list of pros and cons if you do and don't stick to your routine. This could cover things like your health, fitness levels, appearance, confidence, etc. Then make a commitment to yourself. On paper:

1. Say how many times you are going to go to the gym each week

2. Describe your workout routine - what will you do each time you go to the gym? How many reps? What training goals do you have?

3. Commit to a certain amount of weight related activity, a certain amount of cardio, a certain amount of aerobics and time to work spot muscles, such as abdominals. Also incorporate some time to warm up, cool down and stretch properly at the beginning and end of your workout.

4. Describe how you will reward yourself if you get through each week's routine but also give yourself lesser rewards if you achieve part of your week's regime too. So if you commit to go 4 times a week but you only manage to go twice, give yourself half the reward. At the end of the day, you still went and twice a week is better than nothing! But remember to re-commit to go 4 times the following week. (Try not to make your rewards alcohol or food related!).

5. Make friends at the gym! The more sense of community and friendship there is there, the more committed you will be to going - and you will look forward to going too.

6. Put your gym routine into your diary/online scheduler and do not let ANYTHING get in the way of it. Best if you schedule it for after work and ensure your boss knows which nights you work out on. That way they will know to expect you to disappear at a certain time - and they will question you if you are still at your desk when you should be sweating in the gym!

Each time you re-commit, it will strengthen your resolve. Once you have been going steadily for a month, it will become a habit, so PERSEVERE!!!

Good luck

Gym Buddies. You have a rival to train with and beat on the equipment, if you don't go you let your mate down.

Better still run from home to the gym, laugh at the money you have saved and then run home.

find a friend already enrolled there or get a friend to join with you. make it a rule that no one can back out. start easy and only go a couple of times a week; build up to 3-4 visits a week.
