I mean where does it end? First it's the right to free expression (yes, that is what flag burning is) next, it's the right to buy certain books or to gather in groups. When will the right to critisize the government become illegal? It's only a short step until Homeland Security has a toll free hotline where you can report your neighbors for "un-american" acitvities.
If you don't see a similarity between the Bush admin and the 3d Reich at this point, then you're not looking at all.

Yes. Not only is it a free speech issue - it is the most protected form of free speech under the Constitution - political free speech.

I'm very Conservatve (no...I don't love Bush!) and I see this kind of law as un-Constitutional. It's just plain wrong and against everything the United States was founded upon.

And you need a lesson in Government and Politics. This is the Senate pushing this crap, not the White House. Presidents have little to do with laws passed by Congress, or the economy for that matter. You should be angry, but getting rid of the retard will not solve most of our problems.

I find flag burning obnoxious, but I'm more concerned about Congress's picking and choosing what they call free speech than this specific issue. For instance, why is McCain/Feingold's campaign finance reform bill not a restriction of free speech? Why is controlling crowds protesting at abortion clinics not restricition of free speech? Why is it OK to teach about the Islamic law OK in elementary schools but not Christianity?

I would just like to see some consistency from our leadership.

I don't think there is a lot to worry about here. Just because congress passes this proposed constitutional amendment does not mean it will take effect, it will require 2/3 majority of state approval and most real Americans can see this as a big political game to help one party get votes this fall.

You really need to relax. Bush is not a dictator and cannot make law. We have 2 bodies of Govt that do that besides the pres. He cannot run again. Some of you really are out of your minds. If you feel the need to burn your flag, then I suggest you look into why you need to and address that issue on why you hate your country so much first rather than why you cant do it.

there is one rather major difference between the current administrations and Hitler's regime .. namely those pesky elections we insist on having every four years.

nicely, i could not in any respect justify burning the flag, although if it became for warm temperature. except perchance it became made in China and we were going to warfare adverse to them or something. yet i'm pissed.
