I'd like a tribal pattern on my shoulder, but want one that will enhance the shape of the shoulder too. Any hints?

sounds good fella but only listen to advice from professionals like myself and only then listen to th ones that aren't trying to sell u a tattoo, ther's lotsa merceneries in th business2 money first ethics later.. stay away from black henna, it does contain dangerous chemicals, think long and hard if it's what u really want and check out th individual tattooist who works well in tribal styles, if they don't happily offer free advice just walk away and kee p looking.. get in touch if u wanna discuss any serious aspect of tattooing, loyal servant to the art, Dr J.. doctorjtattoo@yahoo.com((doctorjtattoo@yahoo.com)

You need to ask yourself a few questions before seriously deciding on a tattoo, after all it is permanent.

Questions:

Why do I want a tattoo?
Do I want a tribal pattern because it is such a popular design to get?
What does the tattoo mean to me?
Is this design something I can live with for the rest of my life?

Try and find something that has special meaning to you and you'll be happy with it. Just don't be so quick to get inked, think it over and make sure you choose the right design for you.

The fact that the skin moves dramatically is often overlooked by tatoo artists. Draw it on yourself in pen or have the tatoo artist draw it on you to see how it looks in different positions. Figure that your arm is only going to get bigger so try to get a design that will still look good when it stretches out as you gain muscle. Do not expose it to the sun for at least the first two weeks or it will fade and spread much worse in the years to come. Also, covering more than 25% of the skin in black will cause you to get hotter quicker in the sun and retain more heat. I learned this from a friend of mine with 'full sleeve' tatoos that works outdoors.

You shouldn't get a tatoo if you are doing it to be cool because that only ends up being cheesy. you should get a tatoo that has a lot of meaning for you. Those tatoos that women get on their backsides look ridiculous. The barbed wire one look silly. Only get a pattern that you know and understand the meaning of. Angelina Jolie is the only person I can think of that has some cool tatoos, besides my dad. My dad has a parrot on the back of his leg and a Texas Longhorn on his arm. Jolie has the latitude and longitude of a couple of countries on her upper arm. Both of these people have tatoos that have great meaning to them and mean nothing to anyone else. You need to think about this completely before you embark on something so permanent.

If you get a tattoo, make sure its of special meaning to you. They are permanent. On the arm I like the tribal thing on a guy. Also, barbed wire looks cool. Maybe outdated though.

get the kind of tribal tattoos that starts from the shoulder caps you also need to get a design that accentuates your biceps and triceps. so get a clever one that "curves" in the way your biceps are shaped....
am i making any sense?
before you go, check for allergies. ie: latex allergies or ask the tattoo artist what kind of ink do they use and will it cause allergic reactions..... better safe than sorry, right?

good luck!

Nothing is more attractive than a tribal tattoo on a white guy.

I would say no as the ink they use in permanent tattoos. Can make some forms of cancer spread.! I am not joking it happened to my neighbour.
I would get a henna tat and go out on the sun using SPF15 of course.
It looks cool also.

When you finally decide think again they will always be there. I would also try to be as much involved with the disign and making it unique so you will always be proud of it. Good luck, and if you pay cheap you get cheap remember tatoos are like parachutes cheaper is not better. LOL

If you have any tribal links then yes. If not, why bother? It's like an English man who wears a kilt. They just look dumb. Do something that means something. Don't stain your body for fashion.

Having had one when I was 15 and then had to get it removed as it was deemed inappriate for my carreer I have to advise against it. Get a temporary one with henna ink by all means ! But permanent tattoos lose their attractiveness as you get older and they will become unfashionable at some point again.
