The ref had to call it.. no question about it

was it an intentional foul? no

The aussie clearly missed the ball, the italian player had at that point two options.. an easy one and a hard one
easy: keep going and trip on the aussie
hard: try to jump and catch up with the ball before the keeper

every player with experience wouldve gone for the easy call, and the ref had to call it. And let's not forget the bad call the italians got in the 51'.. automatic red card?? very doubtful..

so it was a bad play from the aussie, an easy choice for the italian and maybe a compensating call from the ref.

Its really easy for all of us to say it wasn't a penalty after we see countless replays. But the ref has one view of it, and one view only. HE HAS TO MAKE THAT CALL.
The Italians deserved to win that game. Down to 10 men, did the Aussies ever get anywhere close to the net? Absoloutley brilliant defensive game played by the Italians.
Stop all your whining people. This game is beautfiul and all the whining and complaining is so North American. Stop giving Europeans reason to dislike us.

no.

FIFA needs to get with the technological times. Other sports do crucial video reviews, and this is one time it was truely warrented. Australia was robbed. Maybe Italia would have beaten them in OT, but atleast there would have been a fair chance.

No, a referee thinking clearly would not have called a penalty on a non foul play. Referee messed up big time.

If it was 10 minutes into the game, then yes...possibly. But with 7 seconds left. No way. They was robbed.

Yes it was, there was no reason for Austrailian defender to even slide, the Italian guy just sold it well

No, it wasn't. Had it been a play where Neill had actually reached out and tripped him, yes. But that was a joke call.
