To all of you you are naive to think that places like Japan and England have LOWER crimes, guess again. Their crime rate has soared. In Australia and New Zealand, crime is very high. In the US, in cities like Detroit and Chicago which both have very strict gun laws, the crime rate is high.
When guns are banned, it only hurts us who LEGALLY own our guns. These criminals obtain and keep their guns ILLEGALLY.
Why the liberal left wants to disarm the honest folks is quite simple to understand. The first act of tryanny is to disarm the people.
All you "million mom" and anti gun types, take a look at this
I'll NEVER be a victim again.

It is completely stupid to use any other country as an example. England, Japan, this is all nonsense, these are different cultures with laws that are more strict than the US.
The fact is, in the US there are more people willing to use guns and kill other people. It is just the "gangster" lifestyle that has become such a fad nowadays.
Look within the US, Texas is probably the best example. You are allowed to carry a gun in Texas and they have one of, if not, THE lowest crime rate in the country. California is very strict with its gun laws, and they have one of, if not THE highest crime rate in the country. Basically, all of the criminals have the guns, and no law abiding citizens, so they get a free shot so to speak. Criminals have no problem breaking the law, so they will get guns if it is illegal. But if carrying a gun is legal, then they have to think twice about doing bad things to good, and possibly armed, people.
So I think this serves a better example than "England, or Japan".

I always thought less guns = less violence, but I think you just changed my whole opinion on gun control... I never thought of it like that. You are right, the criminals still would have guns. They already have all the illegal drugs and stuff. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for there being less laws and more freedom. I mean we don't even enforce the laws we have, so how can they make more? However, there is always the sad story on the news about two kids playing with their parents gun and one of them getting shot. Having more gun control might prevent that, but it might not. Oh and I don't think MORE guns = less crime. I think you went a little overboard with that. We shouldn't be handing out free guns to everyone. And for the guns in schools, maybe just for the security guards.
To the princess who answered above me---I don't think you are right about the First Amendment thing. (no offense) I think the First Amendment gives us that right to freedom of speech, religion, the press, etc, but there are SO many laws limiting that!

I'll echo the UK / Japan sentiments. Different cultures, different circumstances, different outcomes.
Japan has greater respect for people and etiquette. Very little crime. They also have far more kids throwing themselves in front of trains because they got bad grades. Maybe they should ban trains. Or schools.
The UK and Australia may have fewer gun crimes but assault, home invasion, rape, robbery have skyrocketed. Just like Washington DC.
Maybe we should look at the main reason we have the second amendment, to prevent a totalitarian government from taking control. We should also look at the anti-gun nuts spreading lies to support their position, like Sorros and Pelosi and Kennedy. They are a greater threat to the Constitution of the United States of America than guns ever will be.

How does that explain the fact that countries like Japan and England, which have very restrictive gun ownership laws, have MUCH lower rates of violent crime and gun violence than the US? Yet they have as much if not more freedom than Americans in other areas, like speech, assembly, privacy, religion, movement, etc.
I've been to London, and felt very safe walking through the city streets even in the middle of the night. I would never do that in the US.

I agree with you on gun control laws. It's similar with drug laws- because drugs are outlawed, it creates a bunch of underlying crime.
But, I disagree with you on your equation "more laws=less freedom." This is not always the case. There are many laws that grant freedoms. For example, the First Amendment is a law (not a statutue, but still a law) and it gives us freedom of speech.

I couldn't agree with you more. People need to realize that the bad guys are gonna have guns whether its legal or not. The rest of us need to be able to defend ourselves and our families. If we had those severely restricted gun laws, as others are suggesting, then we would be at the mercy of the criminals, who would be able to do what ever they want with us. Let Us Protect and Defend Ourselves.

i think the root of the problem is people need to take time out and raise there children with good morals it starts when they are young
and seek out some help for your child if you notice nasty behavior before it is tooo late and they become criminals also poverty does plays a role i think there are a lot of things to consider when it comes to why thy are so many shootings but you do have a point to some degree

Because of the fact that in countries where carrying guns is severely restricted (Japan, UK) gun violence is extremely low to nonexistent.
