If you look at federer's backhand at the french open final, and now look at it at wimbledon, it is so much different. now it is more powerful, enforceful, and has better spin. his backhand at the french open was....... prettty bad. what has changed to make him hit so much better. was it that he is more confident now, or was teh wind a factor in the final?

Federer has a beautiful one hand backhand. At the French Open, on bread and butter cross-court rallies his one hand backhand was unfortunately no match against Nadal's left handed forehand.

Nadal hits a very forceful forehand with a lot of topspin. On the red clay, this shot bounces very high at Federer's shoulder height.

With a one hand backhand, you just can't attack or handle a high bouncing topspin forehand as struck by Nadal.

On grass, the ball bounces very low. Even topspin shots don't bounce very high. Anything thrown at Federer that is not a deep and high ball, you better watch out. All the mid to low bouncing balls fall into Federer's power zone.

So, where Federer's backhand was completely neutralized by Nadal's forehand on clay. Don't expect the same outcome on grass. Nadal owns the clay. But, Federer owns the grass. On low shots on grass, Federer has more power and versatility on his backhand than most players.

Federer couldn't hit a backhand in the french open final because nadal was giving him high topspin shots which federer can't attack. So all that federe did was push the ball back. But in wimbeldon he can attack because spinning doesnt work that much on it.

yup. it is definetly the surface. he plays so much better on grass but you also cant rule out nadal's heavy topsin.

...federer's forehand is so crazy too!

He can use continental, eastern or anything in between because of his light pressure on the grip handle..
