Size can really matter. It depends on the person and what they can take. If the person isn't used to a bigger one then it is going to take some time you can just jump in. i don't think there is a too big as long as you know how to use it. but to me small is when you can't pull away a little and still be in

For some it matters and for some its not really important. Average size is basically 5-6 inches I think.
