It happens at the end of every war: WW2, Korea, etc. It is a necessary step to end tensions.
I personally do not agree with it but its the way it goes.

It seems the wrong thing to do but if it stops the killing well I will have to go along with it, it worked to a degree in Northern Ireland when the British government started talking to the terrorist Gerry Adams

If it helps bring the amount of killing down and helps get Iraq stable on its own, I'm ok with it. I don't think it is the best idea, but we'll see what happens.
