Do you really want to know, then here it is:
Once upon a time, long ago, when the universe was in its infancy. When new stars were being born, new planets were being hatched and new galaxies were being whisked into existence. There was a being called Manwo or Woman whatever you prefer. This being was travelling in space on a journey of zillion trillion billion and tens of millions of years in a state of deep and perfect joy - you see. And all around this goodly being new stars were being born. New galaxies were being whisked into existence. It was a spectacular spectacle of cosmic firework. Through new born stars and through ambiance of radiant nebulous clouds, this being was on an endless motion along a great luminous curve, when suddenly it came across two giant stars and the oppositely pointing gravitational attraction of these giants pull this being apart creating a man, and of course a woman .....
Ok, I know this sounds a bit sad, but was this the end? No, this was not the end. This was only a new beginning. Once on their own, one of these goodly beings headed south while the other went north, and then one of them went west as the other headed east. But whichever direction they went and whenever they went they always returned - they returned with great speed and passion. And in the middle of a cosmic firework and radiance of nebulous haze, they merged, and intertwined, and knew love.

As the male decides the gender of the child through the X and Y chromosome, it is all to do with whether a "male" or "female" sperm wins the race to the egg.
I have also heard the theory about temperature - I know this affects chickens and lizards who lay eggs externally. Don;t know if it applies to mammals though - I would have tought the internal temp of the womb would be pretty much constant.

i heard it has to do with temperature when you are growing in the womb. Also early on in developement you are a nuetral sex the one part then either forms a penis or clitoris. Other developements follow this.
