can the u.s stop nuclear missiles from hitting us?

Ok folks, who can hit the United States with a nuclear missile? China , no way! Russia, maybe but I doubt it. You know we were raised with a fear installed within us to try and make us believe that if America didn't have the strongest, bigest military force and if we didn't stockpile more nuclear weapons, that we would be stupid cowards, with suicidal tendencies, because surely every rogue country on the planet would attack us and try and take everything we have. Our Democracy and freedom being the prize!I realize that we have all been sedated by the powers rhat be and that clear unadulterated thought is hard to come by within our minds these days, but try to focus on this question for a second or two. if You and I were from a poor middeleastern counrty that had corrupt government like we all do but no watchdogs within to circumvent this attrosity ,so your country just struggled along, do you think your little piece of **** country would sit around and try to figure out ways to overthrow the Big Guy, namely the United States, well maybe a little bit but remember you don't have **** for nukes and you couldn't fly one overhere let alone hit anything! so the answer has got to be no way, yes you will be forever envious of the Americans and you may fantasize about living here and being a rich person with everything that goes with it, but there's no way you are going to help bring on your own demise the human mind does'nt go there, and either will your's. So stop with the paranoia and all your little insecurities and be assured that no country other than this country, The most powerful country of all times) is planning to take us out; But one US! There are several proposals for anti missile defence. While I'm not sure what the goverment really has built up by now. Here are some of the defeice ideas.

STAR WARS: Lasers in Space and on the ground which distory the bomb in space

Counter Missles: Luanched missles which intersept incoming projectiles

While we may be able to stop one or two missles, it will only be useful if we can detect the missle in the first few seconds of the few minutes it takes to get here, and we can intersept them in time.

The truth is we have the capablity, but we most likely don't have the ablity to stop them in time. So if launched, we would counter attack and distroy each other, sending the world into WWIII and kill everyone.

The idea of Nuclear Weapons is that we will use if needed and distroy everything, so don't make us use them. We really only need one missle and be done with it. But we have enough to distroy the world X times over.

Here's some good advice maybe the U.S. should stop holding the rest of the world by the throat and then there wouldn't be any one who would want to shoot nuclear missiles at you, I like Canada's way of doing things just dont try causing all this **** and nobody will hate you cause face it attacking Canada would be a waste of a bomb, and beleive it or not Canada has more skilled soldiers than the U.S. because we actually encourage our soldiers to develop new specialized skills, and pursue higher education. Plus Our boys get practice shooting the ***** off of snowmen

Primarily through deterrance. The anti ballistic missle system is not 100% functional. Any country with a significant nuclear force could hit us very very hard.

Unfortunately for them, we have enough nuclear weapons to destroy the world if we chose.

This is usually enough incentive not to strike us. However, some crazy leaders, like the Iranian President, might just think it is worth the destruction of the middle east in order to strike the great satan (what they call the US).

Yes. Quite possibly. The technology is qualitatively advanced to eliminate the missiles in space. Quantatively it could be doomsday. But of course this could be a nuclear science thing so maybe quantatively it's possible to stop an attack too.

All they would have to do is tell the North Koreans we hold a lot of US Dollars. You launch a missile at the US and we lose a lot of Wan. You launch and we'll be all over you like white on rice.

Possibly. We have patriot missiles which intercept and destroy enemy missiles in-flight. but they are only about 50% effective so far.
