What's the best non-poisonus snake to keep in your yard? I prefer the King Snake & the Rat snakes however I will kill the poisonus snakes such as a Rattle Snake. I also like the Black Racer snakes as well.

Bullsnakes are good yard snakes, and the little Ring-neck snakes and Dekay's (Texas Brown) snakes are common and helpful as well.

Why? You can't really keep or encourage snakes to hang around very easily, so what is the purpose of the question?

First, there are no such things as poisonous and nonpoisonus snakes. The correct term is venomous or nonvenomous. Second, let all of them stay in your yard, as it keeps the rodent population down. Just be careful make sure you klnow which is which and if you are not sure stay away.

I think that the rat snake would be a great choice for a non-venomous yard snake.

Garter snakes are cool, and when they make their mating ball, woo hoo! They are pretty and keep out pests. And they are fun to catch!
