For the same reason that there are other sports that claim to be world wide when it is only exclusive to America. I guess that somewhere someone feels that America is the only country in the world, and therefore any and all sports in America are considered world wide.
Just like ABC's Wild World of Sports
Or The World Series (MLB, and college), the little league version is a true world series.
Soccer can be considered world wide as for participants are from all around the world.
I have to agree on the wrestling part mentioned earlier, looks to me that most of it nowadays is drama more than wrestling. Shame someone has to pay $20-50 to go see that mess.

Now the WWE, formerly the WWF, has people from all over the world.
Rey Mysterio is from Tijuana, Mexico.
Chris Jericho is Canadian.
Smackdown's #1 Announcer (whoever he is) is Asian.
So yeah, they are not all American.

World Wrestling ENTERTAINMENT has a lot of different types of people. Their are african americans, mexicans, asians, and americans. There are people from all over the world in the WWE.

Why is it called the "world series" in baseball, when only america is in it(in some cases canada).
And I think he meant "world wrestling federation".
