it was gold and copper as both occur in they're pure state in some places and appear as copper or gold nuggets, although meteorites were used before and durring the bronze age because they could be hammered into tools because they were mainly pure iron and nickel

First Metal Discovered

The Bronze Age is listed as one of the first ages of man because the science of metals is so important. Bronze, which is an alloy (mix) of copper and brass melts at a low temperature. Brass and copper by themselves aren't strong enough to hold a tip for a spear, but their alloy is. Remember the ancient Greeks, they were the classic Bronze Age culture.

Man knew of Iron from Iron Meteors, which were as rare as hen's teeth. They could pound it and work it, but they couldn't make it.

The Iron Age was a more advanced level of technology achievement because it is so hard to melt Iron. A wood fire just won't get hot enough to do it. You need to understand how to use charcoal, how to confine and stoke the fire with oxygen, so you can get it hot enough to work the metal.

The science of steel is a little more difficult, you need to understand just what materials and in exactly what proportions are need to make it. This allows us to create the toughest metals known.

Probably gold, as it can be found in pure nugget form. Bronze is an alloy that has to be made, it does not exist naturally, therefore copper and tin had to be discovered before it.

probably gold.It occurs as metal in rocks, rather than as a metallic ore so it easy to extract and work
Other possibillities are silver, mercury(not a lot of use to stone age man),and copper
Gold is the most likely though

Bronze...which was "discovered" by way of mining, it was manufactured using other metals with copper ore.

copper, then we figured out how to make bronze which is a composite of 2 different metals.

I think Led Zeppelin discovered the early origins of it.
