SETI believes that it will find proof of extraterrestrial life within the next 20 years. However, they will only be able to find life that is intelligent enough to produce radio signals.

Nobody knows if we are alone or not. Statistically, it is very likely that life exists on other planets. Yet, due to the vast distances between planetary systems, it may be unlikely that we'll ever meet or know of any other intelligent species. That may not be a bad thing, though.

how do we really know the universe is huge? sure we spent billions of dollars to make powerful telescopes and satalites but thats all we have. god isnt sitting up there somewhere with a big *** computer telling us how he made everything. all we have is a old book that tells us how stuff happend. were not even sure who wrote it, how do we know the telescopes arent just picking up little snow storms floating around that look like universes? we all have just as good of a guess as to how big the universe is, is it getting bigger, how it got here, why its here, and are we alone.

Why is it horrifying?

Why does quantity matter?

We have no prospect of reaching other planets that might have life on them, so its largely academic.

there's no way that we are alone. the universe is apparently expanding at lightspeed? i think. it has been for billions of years. it is massive and there are trillions of stars. there has to be life somewhere in there.

I am sure there is INTELLIGENT life, elsewhere in the universe.
Unfortunately, we need MORE intelligent life HERE on earth.
