do not go by our answers. your baby is the clue. if you think having the blanket is dangerous to her, then dont give it to her. you may have to come up with other ways of keeping her warm if it is cold where you are, like blanket pajamas or heat the house. you know when something is not right with your baby. mother nature gave us those instincts. i dont even know if babies need pillows. do they really?

I have read that babies don't need to have a pillow or blanket, and that they aren't aware of what they are missing. I think when your child goes to a toddler bed then they are ready for a pillow and a blanket. I would just dress you baby in PJ's everynight, and adjust the temp in your house for your baby, and then you can adjust the amount of pillows and blankets you use for the new temp. Really if you are worried, I would go with the better safe than sorry. You will get more sleep this way. Besides, you would feel horrible guilt if something did actually happen to your child. I hope this helps.

Babies don't need pillows. As long as the mattress is firm and supportive, it's good enough. About a blanket-you can't really "teach" a 10-month-old how to use a blanket. As a parent of two, I always check on them regularly to see if they are safe while at sleep (before I go to bed myself). They are so vulnerable of being suffocated at this age.
My oldest son has no problem with blankets, but my second son does. He was always tangled up by the blanket for quite a while.(when he was around 1?) So my way to work around it is to put on enough clothing for him so that he does not need blankets.
Anyways, work with her and make sure she's safe. Safety is the most important thing.

i wouldn't give her a heavy blanket, but maybe the blanket that comes with the crib sheet set. i would do what was suggested before with tucking it in on the opposite end.
however, if you don't feel comfortable with the blanket yet, make sure that the sleeper she is sleeping in is sufficient enough to keep her warm, and that she has socks on.
i wouldn't do the pillow thing until you know she has good control of her head, and can turn her head out of the pillow.

I always used big blankets and tucked it in very tightly on the sides and end of the bed. that way she couldn't pull it over her face. But the best solution might be to just make sure you dress her warmly so a blanket isn't necessary. My daughter is 2 and I just now gave her a pillow. Thats kinda dangerous to give that to them too young.

Sounds like she's a mover, wait til she at least a year, the concern of SIDS decreases about then.
Then maybe tuck then end of the blanket under the mattress to hold it in place so she can't get tangled in it.
But by a year she should be strong enough and developed enough to move her head to prevent her self from smothering in a pillow and remember always lie her on her back.

The best way to do this is to get a blanket that is large enough that you can tuck it down in the sides of the crib. Also you use sheet bands to hold it down on the sides. No pillows unitl she is a little older.

I've been covering both of my kids with blankets since they were newborn...VERY lightweight receiving blankets made of thin flannel, so if they did pull them over their faces, they wouldn't smother. I never have given either of them a pillow (27 months old and 11 months old). My older son has a stuffed dog he sleeps with, and uses "goggie" as a pillow a lot of the time. :)

Try tucking the blanket in tight at the end of the bed and leave it loose at baby's head, she wont be able to pull it over her head then.

My son was bad at this too and it freaked me out... I wanted him to stay warm in the winter. So I went to walmart or any baby store should have one.. They are blankets that they slide into.. (they look like a thin blanket sewn into a infats snow suit) yet they allow the arms to come out. and you don't have to worry about it anymore.
