No it makes me sick to see that we did that to people and that they are still suffering the effects of it.

What's the matter with you? Suffering doesn't make anybody proud. Dwelling on past suffering doesn't help either. Learn from history and make sure that you do not repeat it.

Honestly, those are people in hideous pain. Why do you feel the need to display that? It was part of a vicious war decades ago. The scars of that conflict are still felt by both countries. Way to try to open them up again. Asshole.

Hmmm... kind of like asking if King James makes Briton's proud. Or if Euthenasia makes the Chinese proud. If Cocaine makes Columbian proud.

If you want to be as judgemental as possible over a single moment captured on film why don't we dig up all the moments in history that PEOPLE (not just Americans) can judge and prosecute.

I agree that it is a terrible atrocity that countries like Viet Nam, Iraq, and others have in the past (and in some cases still do) engaged in guerrilla warfare, and do not follow the Geneva convention by mixing in among innocent civilians, including children. By doing this they force American soldiers to make choices that they would not have had to if those involved would follow the rules. It was well known then, as is well known now that some of the tactics used in guerrilla warfare include using children to carry explosives, booby trapping the bodies of fallen comrades, and not wearing uniforms and placing the base of operations in the midst of populated areas for the purpose of using the general population as human shields. These behaviors are strictly against the Geneva convention for the express purpose of protecting the civilian population. Who's choice was it to involve them? Don't blame the soldier for having to make the choice to save his life and the lives of his men. Blame those who didn't care enough about the civilian population to bring the fighting to them.

I am proud we tried to stop the spread of communism and tried to defend South Vietnam. Why don't you post some pictuturs of Americans fire bombing Tokyo? Or how about all the Soamli civilians that were killed in Mogadishu? In any war tradgedies happen. Get a life!!!

Governments and militaries are made up of humans. Those humans have their own agendas, their own fears, emotions, biases and hatreds. And humans make mistakes.

Every government, and every military. Including mine and yours. The important thing right now is that the photo you show and the story behind it gets taught to children, so that we learn from it.

It makes me think you are anti american. Everyone with knowledge of history and conflict know what types of events occurred.

Why would you choose to draw a broad conclusion from one event in history. Your own ancestors probably did worse to others. ARE YOU PROUD OF IT?

What a sad picture.... war is a sad, and evil necessity sometimes. Unfortunately, many of the innocent suffer.

But our soldiers in the back ground speaks volumes...

God bless our troops....

America, home of the Free...BECAUSE of the Brave....

I get the feeling you're too young to remember the war, the torture the Vietcong were doing to u.s .soldiers who were mostly in their late teens. About the bombs they would strap to children and have them walk up to an American camp. We treated the Vietnamese better than they did
