Having a period is natural and healthy. It is your body's way of cleaning itself out. I can't imagine not having your period being healthy. It probobly also has alot of side effects. I wouldn't touch it.

Just a point of interest to all women out there...YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE A PERIOD! Women on birth control do not build up the same thickness of endometrium (uterus lining) as women not on the pill or needle, patch, etc. Women on these contraceptives also do not ovulate because their hormones are kept at a stable level. So there is nothing really for the woman to expell. This is evident in women with heavy periods who go on birth control to minimize their flow. The only reason the lining sloughs off during menstruation is to prepare the uterus for the next egg. SO, it make sense that if a woman is not producing eggs that she does not need to shed the old endometrium! There are actually several health benefits to not having a period - reduced risk of ovarian cancer as well as lower risk of iron deficiency which is a huge problem in menstruating women.
The only real health benefit to having a period every month is the piece of mind that you aren't pregnant. So read up ladies and get the facts before assuming something "unnatural" is bad for you.

You can have period free life with regular birth control. This is done by taking the first 3 weeks of your birth control and not taking the placebo pills (the last, 4th, week), but starting the next pack immediately. I've skipped my period several times - sometimes for up to 3 months in a row. Doctors say that you can skip your period safely for up to a year at a time. I've had friends skip their period with low-hormone birth control and they experienced spotting. I used regular ortho-tri-cyclen and experienced no side effects at all. Hope this helps!

The paperwork SAYS it's safe...but deep down I don't believe it is. I was on the 3 month shot (Depo Provera - which boasts about a certain % of women who no longer have their period) and took myself off of it before a year was up. The side effects were too much for me. Weight gain, cyst-like pimples, and terrible stomach pains. I liked not having a period, but something deep down inside me told me it wasn't right and to get off it. So I did. I have also been feeling alot better since. (I mean, the pill was "safe" until years later when they did more research and had to "tone it down".) What are they going to say about this drug in 30 years time?

There is a birth control injection called "Depo Provera" that you get every so many months (I believe it's every 3 months). It keeps you from getting your period. The only thing is, it has side effects like the other therapies. It is also known for making you gain quite a bit of weight. You might ask your doctor about this.

my sister is mentally chalanged and she just takes regular birth control all the time, and she never has her period unless she forgets to take the pill. It isnt bad for you, your body doesnt even start the whole process so nothing sits inside of you. lol

I heard about it too, but it seems creepy, great, but creepy. That stuff has to go somewhere and it would seem weird to sit inside of you forever. I also heard it won't be available for awhile.
