while I think both are beautiful, I think that gold complements a tan better than silver. I think the brightness of silver would draw the eye to that, while the muted gold would not overpower the beauty of a tan.

silver because it contrasts the skin more so you would notice it easier. gold blends in more giving off a gold tone to your skin. It also depends on how tan you are as well. if you are really dark I usually think of aging people more and gold goes with that so I am biased towards gold. why dont you actually compare in the mirror both of them and see what suits you best

Both look great with a tan, although I've read that SILVER enhances the tan more so than gold.

Well, this is just a matter of taste. I love all kinds of jewelry including silver and gold.
There are people who think their skin color looks good only with silver or only with gold.
I think whatever makes you feel beautiful is what you should wear with your tan. So, you see, it's really your decision.
